Day-by-Day Itinerary
Durban to Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park
Arrive at Durban's King Shaka International Airport and meet your guide for the drive north along the Elephant Coast. Stop at a traditional Zulu market for a glimpse into local life before arriving at Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park — Africa's oldest proclaimed nature reserve and the cradle of rhino conservation. Check into your lodge overlooking the bushveld and enjoy a late lunch. The afternoon game drive introduces you to the park's rolling landscape and its inhabitants — white rhino are often sighted within the first hour, along with buffalo, nyala, and giraffe.
Accommodation: Hilltop Camp
Meals: Lunch, Dinner
Full Day Hluhluwe-iMfolozi — Rhino Country
A full day exploring both sections of this remarkable reserve. The morning drive enters the Hluhluwe section — the northern, more mountainous area — where dense vegetation supports black rhino, elephants, and a healthy leopard population. Your guide shares the extraordinary story of Operation Rhino, which saved the southern white rhinoceros from the brink of extinction. After lunch, cross to the iMfolozi section in the south, where open grasslands and river valleys support lion prides, buffalo herds, and vast numbers of white rhino. The contrast between the two sections — lush versus open, mountainous versus flat — showcases the park's ecological diversity.

Hluhluwe to St Lucia — Wetland Gateway
After a final morning game drive in the park, transfer to the charming coastal town of St Lucia, gateway to the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. Check into your guest house among the subtropical gardens and enjoy lunch. The afternoon features a boat cruise on the St Lucia estuary — home to Africa's highest concentration of hippos and Nile crocodiles. The boat glides past reed beds where Goliath herons and African fish eagles hunt, while hippo pods surface nearby. As the sun sets over the estuary, the water turns golden and the sounds of the wetland fill the air.

iSimangaliso Wetland Park — Five Ecosystems
Spend the full day exploring iSimangaliso Wetland Park, South Africa's first UNESCO World Heritage Site. The park encompasses five interconnected ecosystems: coral reefs, sandy beaches, coastal dune forests, lakes, and papyrus wetlands. Begin with a drive through the Eastern Shores section, watching for reedbuck, red duiker, and samango monkeys in the dune forest. Continue to Cape Vidal, where the Indian Ocean crashes onto pristine golden beaches. Snorkel in the protected reef (seasonal) among tropical fish, or simply swim and relax on the beach. The afternoon walk through coastal dune forest reveals Africa's tallest forested dunes.
Accommodation: Lidiko Heritage Hotel

Zulu Cultural Experience & Lake St Lucia
The morning is dedicated to the rich cultural heritage of the Zulu people. Visit a traditional Zulu homestead where a sangoma (traditional healer) explains Zulu customs, beliefs, and medicinal practices. Watch a performance of traditional Zulu dance — the powerful rhythms and acrobatic movements are a highlight of any visit to KwaZulu-Natal. After lunch, take a guided kayak trip on Lake St Lucia, paddling through mangrove channels and watching for water monitors, fish eagles, and the many waterbird species that inhabit the lake. The evening features a traditional Zulu braai with potjie (stew) and umqombothi (traditional beer).

St Lucia to Durban — Dolphin Coast
Depart St Lucia and drive south along the Dolphin Coast, named for the pods of bottlenose dolphins that frequent these warm Indian Ocean waters. Stop at Shakaland, a cultural heritage site where the story of the great Zulu king Shaka is told through exhibits and live demonstrations. Continue through the sugar cane fields of Zululand, stopping at the Dlinza Forest in Eshowe — a beautiful canopy boardwalk through indigenous forest offers views over the surrounding hills. Arrive in the Durban area and check into your beachfront hotel. A farewell dinner at a Durban curry house celebrates the end of your KwaZulu-Natal adventure.
