Accommodation: Bisate Lodge, Volcanoes NP
Meals: Lunch, Dinner
Mountain Gorilla Trek — Rwanda
Trek into the bamboo forests of Volcanoes National Park to spend one hour with a wild gorilla family. The encounter with a silverback — 200kg of gentle power, separated from you by just seven metres of forest floor — is travel's most profound wildlife experience. Return to Bisate for a celebration lunch. Afternoon at leisure with volcano views.
Accommodation: Bisate Lodge, Volcanoes NP
Meals: Breakfast, Celebration lunch, Dinner
Rwanda to Uganda — Bwindi
Drive across the Rwanda-Uganda border to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The journey passes through dramatic volcanic landscape and terraced hillside farming. Arrive at Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp — luxury tents in the heart of the gorilla habitat where gorillas occasionally wander through camp. Afternoon forest walk with a naturalist.
Accommodation: Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp, Bwindi
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Second Gorilla Trek (Optional) or Forest Day
Option one: a second gorilla trek with a different family — every encounter is unique, and two treks deepen your understanding of gorilla behaviour and family dynamics. Option two: a full day in Bwindi's ancient forest — birdwatching (350+ species including 23 Albertine Rift endemics), a Batwa pygmy cultural experience, and forest hiking. Either way, an extraordinary day.
Accommodation: Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp, Bwindi
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Bwindi to Queen Elizabeth NP
Drive north through the Albertine Rift to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Stop at the Ishasha sector for tree-climbing lions — one of only two populations worldwide that regularly climb fig trees. Continue to the park's northern sector. Afternoon Kazinga Channel boat cruise — hippos, elephants, buffalo, and an extraordinary concentration of waterbirds line the banks of this natural waterway.
Accommodation: Mweya Safari Lodge
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Queen Elizabeth NP — Game Drives
Morning game drive through the Kasenyi plains — Uganda kob herds attract lion prides, while elephants and buffalo roam the crater region. Dinner at Mweya overlooking the Kazinga Channel.

Afternoon forest walk spotting red colobus monkeys and grey-cheeked mangabeys.

Chimpanzee Tracking — Kibale
Dawn chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest. Expert trackers locate the chimps by their calls and the sound of fig branches breaking.
