Day-by-Day Itinerary
Arrive Arusha — Coffee Plantation Welcome
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport. Your guide meets you and transfers you to Arusha Coffee Lodge, set among coffee and tea plantations with Mount Meru views. Enjoy a welcome dinner while your guide explains the migration's current position and the extraordinary week ahead. Rest well — tomorrow you enter elephant country.
Accommodation: Arusha Coffee Lodge
Meals: Dinner
Tarangire National Park — Elephant Kingdom
Drive south to Tarangire National Park, famous for its enormous baobab trees and one of Africa's highest concentrations of elephants. During dry season, over 3,000 elephants gather along the Tarangire River, creating a pachyderm spectacle unmatched anywhere on the continent. Watch herds of 50 or more crossing the river, mothers guiding calves through the shallows. Stay at Tarangire Treetops — elevated treehouses built around ancient baobab and marula trees.
Accommodation: Tarangire Treetops Lodge
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Tarangire to Ngorongoro Crater
Morning game drive in Tarangire targeting predators and birdlife — the park hosts over 550 species. After lunch, transfer through the Great Rift Valley to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Ascend to the crater rim at 2,350 metres and check into &Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge — each suite is a Maasai-inspired bead-and-banana-leaf creation perched on the rim with staggering caldera views. Dinner on the terrace as mist rolls across the crater floor below.
Accommodation: &Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Ngorongoro Crater — Volcanic Amphitheatre
Descend into the crater at dawn. The floor supports 25,000 animals in a natural enclosure — lion prides, black rhino, elephant, buffalo, and flamingo-lined Lake Magadi. Spend the full day on the crater floor with a gourmet packed lunch. The crater's density means you can see all Big Five before lunch. Ascend in late afternoon and return to the lodge for a crater-rim dinner under the stars.
Accommodation: &Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge
Meals: Breakfast, Packed lunch, Dinner
Enter the Serengeti — Central Plains
Drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area into the Serengeti's central Seronera Valley. This is the Serengeti's predator capital — lion prides claim every kopje, cheetah coalitions patrol the plains, and leopards drape themselves across sausage-tree branches. Game drive en route to your camp, positioned for optimal migration access. The Serengeti's scale becomes apparent — a quarter of Africa's lion population calls this ecosystem home.
Accommodation: Serengeti Migration Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Serengeti — Full Day Migration Tracking
A full day following the herds. Your guide uses radio networks and decades of experience to position you in the path of the migration. Depending on the season, witness columns of wildebeest stretching to the horizon or the calving grounds where 8,000 newborns arrive daily. Between the mega-herds, track lion prides that shadow the migration and hyena clans that pick off the stragglers. Gourmet bush lunch under an acacia tree.
Accommodation: Serengeti Migration Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Bush lunch, Dinner
Transfer to Northern Serengeti — Lamai
Fly north to the Lamai Wedge — a triangular section of the Serengeti where the migration funnels between kopjes on its way to and from the Mara River crossings. Check into Singita Lamai Lodge, set on a rocky ridge with panoramic views of the northern plains. Afternoon game drive along the river, watching for the massive herds that build up before crossing attempts. The lodge's infinity pool seems to pour into the Serengeti itself.
Accommodation: Singita Lamai Lodge
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Mara River Crossings & Predator Action
The day centres on the Mara River — the migration's most dangerous obstacle. Position yourself at a known crossing point where thousands of wildebeest gather, building courage before plunging into crocodile-infested waters. The drama is intense — dust clouds, thundering hooves, crocodile strikes, and the desperate scramble up the opposite bank. Between crossings, track the big cats that exploit the chaos. Return to Singita for a six-course dinner.
Accommodation: Singita Lamai Lodge
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Final Serengeti — Balloon & Bush Dinner
Optional dawn balloon safari floating silently over the migration herds as the sun rises. Champagne breakfast in the bush. Otherwise, a final morning game drive focused on whatever remains on your wish list. Afternoon spa treatment at the lodge or a walking safari with a Maasai guide. Farewell bush dinner — white linen and silver under a chandelier of stars, with the sounds of the Serengeti as your soundtrack.
Accommodation: Singita Lamai Lodge
