Day-by-Day Itinerary
Arrive Kigali — Transfer to Volcanoes NP
Arrive at Kigali International Airport. Visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, then transfer northwest through Rwanda's terraced hillsides to Volcanoes National Park. Check into Bisate Lodge, where thatched villas echo Rwandan royal architecture and floor-to-ceiling windows frame the Virunga volcanoes. Evening gorilla trek briefing over dinner.

Mountain Gorilla Trek
Early breakfast, then report to park headquarters. Your group of eight is assigned a habituated gorilla family. The trek ranges from one to four hours through bamboo forest at 2,500–3,000 metres altitude. When you find the gorillas, spend one extraordinary hour among silverbacks, nursing mothers, and playful juveniles. Return to Bisate for a celebration lunch. Afternoon community conservation visit.
Accommodation: Bisate Lodge, Volcanoes NP
Meals: Breakfast, Celebration lunch, Dinner
Rwanda to Tanzania — Fly to Arusha
Morning at leisure at Bisate — enjoy the volcano views, walk through the lodge's reforestation project, or simply reflect on yesterday's gorilla encounter. Transfer to Kigali for your afternoon flight to Arusha, Tanzania. Arrive and transfer to your Arusha hotel. Dinner briefing on the Tanzanian safari ahead.
Accommodation: Arusha Coffee Lodge
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Ngorongoro Crater — Volcanic Amphitheatre
Drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and descend into the crater — a 260-square-kilometre volcanic arena home to 25,000 animals. Full-day game drive on the crater floor: lion prides, black rhino, elephant, buffalo, and flamingo-lined Lake Magadi. Big Five before lunch is standard here. Ascend to your lodge on the crater rim for sundowner cocktails.

Ngorongoro to Serengeti
Drive through the highlands into the Serengeti. The landscape transforms from misty forest to golden plains stretching to every horizon. Game drive en route, watching for cheetah and secretary birds on the open grasslands. Arrive at &Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas — a mobile luxury camp that moves with the migration, placing you exactly where the wildlife is densest.

Serengeti — Full Day Migration Tracking
A full day dedicated to the Serengeti's wildlife. Dawn drives target predator activity — lion prides, cheetah hunts, and hyena clans. Your guide uses radio networks to track the migration's position. Bush lunch under an acacia canopy. Afternoon drives follow the wildebeest and zebra herds as they move across the plains. The scale is overwhelming — columns of animals stretching beyond the horizon.
Accommodation: &Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas
Meals: Breakfast, Bush lunch, Dinner
Serengeti — Kopjes & Big Cats
Explore the Serengeti's rocky kopjes — granite outcrops rising from the plains like islands, each supporting its own micro-ecosystem of hyrax, agama lizards, and — most importantly — lion prides that use the kopjes as vantage points and nurseries. Track leopards in the riverine forest and search for the elusive serval in the long grass. Return to camp for afternoon tea, then a sunset drive.
Accommodation: &Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Serengeti — River Crossings & Drama
If the season and migration position allow, head to the nearest river crossing point — the migration's most dramatic and dangerous moment. Thousands of wildebeest gather on the bank, building courage before plunging into crocodile-infested waters. The tension, the dust, the thundering hooves — it is nature at its most raw. If crossings aren't active, a full day of game driving in new areas of the Serengeti. Farewell bush dinner.
Accommodation: &Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Bush dinner
Serengeti — Final Safari Day
Optional dawn balloon safari ($550 pp) floating silently over the herds, followed by champagne breakfast in the bush. Otherwise, a final morning game drive targeting any remaining wish-list species. Afternoon at leisure at camp — write in your journal, nap in your tent, let the Serengeti sink in. Farewell dinner under the stars, reflecting on a journey from mountain gorillas to savannah predators.
